the daytona 100

Picture
Zwitty Ultra is proud to announce its first race, the 2015 DAYTONA 100, North Florida's first point-to-point 100-mile race.  The race is a USATF-sanctioned, north-to-south, point-to-point course that travels through some of the most scenic areas Florida has to offer.  The inaugural race will take place on November 7-8, 2015.  You will be running almost exclusively on paved trails, sidewalks, and the beach itself (70 miles of pavement; 30 miles of very firm and runnable beach).  You will rarely be more than a block or so from the ocean, and will enjoy countless unobstructed views of the water.
Run on quiet seaside streets and a beach with sand so sturdy it once hosted the world's most famous car race, the DAYTONA 100 is a flat and fast course . . . perhaps the fastest 100-miler in the state or even the country.  And with the moderate North Florida temperatures in November, this course is absolutely perfect for anyone looking to run a first 100-miler, or to notch a "PR" in the distance.

the keys100

Picture
Often referred to as Florida's "Super Bowl of Ultrarunning," the KEYS100 family of races are Florida's most-iconic and most-popular ultramarathons.  100-mile runners literally run the entire historic Overseas Highway (US1), from Mile Marker 100 in Key Largo all  the way down to Higgs Beach in Key West.  Along the way, runners will traverse over 40 islands and 40 bridges, including the signature 7-Mile Bridge that connects the city of Marathon to the "Lower Keys."  With its ever-present heat and humidity, the KEYS100 races are every bit as challenging as they are beautiful.  And given that they are run in the middle of May every year, they serve as perfect training for the World's Toughest Footrace -- the Badwater 135 -- (or, alternatively, perfect "resume-padders" for those looking to gain entry into Badwater 135 in the future).

The KEYS100 also hosts the USATF-Florida 100-mile state championships.

Dave is the only runner in the history of the 100-mile race to place in the top-10 in four consecutive years (2011-14; men's champion, 2013).   Dave and KEYS100 race director Bob Becker have gotten to know each other well over those years, and they are both excited to announce that Zwitty Ultra is a Coaching Sponsor of the KEYS100.  To learn more about the KEYS100 races (including the Keys 50, and -- new for 2015 -- the Keys 50k race), visit www.keys100.com, or click on the image above.

Named one of the "21 Destination Trail Races For Your 2015 Bucket List" by Trail Runner Magazine, the EVERGLADES ULTRAS are truly unique races in a truly unique location.   The EVERGLADES ULTRAS also host the USATF-Florida 50-mile and 50k trail championships.

The race venue--the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park--is a Florida treasure.  It is a beautiful and diverse wilderness located between "Alligator Alley" and Tamiami Trail in the Florida Everglades. It is the largest state park in Florida covering 80,000 acres, and features a wide variety of Everglades habitats—bald cypress swamp lowlands, grassland prairie, tropical hardwood hammocks and pine rock lands. This preserve is protected with great care and attention to detail.  The Fakahatchee features the largest selection of species of orchids and bromeliads on the continent.  Living here are Florida panther, black bear, deer, alligator, bobcat, Everglades mink, diamondback terrapin and water fowl and migratory birds too numerous to count. Its groves of native royal palms are the largest in the state and the only place in the world where bald cypress and royal palm share the forest canopy.

Runners may see it all, traveling along old logging "trams"--raised trails preserved and maintained for access to various sections of the park. Fully provisioned aid stations will be carefully placed along the route, which has been designed to include views of the great diversity of the Fakahatchee.  Lots of activities are available on race day for runners' guests.

Zwitty is proud to be a Coaching Sponsor of the EVERGLADES ULTRAS.  For more information on this amazing race, visit www.evergladesultras.com, or click on the logo above.

ultramilano-sanremo 175

Picture
The longest nonstop road race in Europe, the UltraMilano-Sanremo 175 is the definition of the word "epic."  For the first 75 miles, the race travels from the southern outskirts of Milan, south through the Italian countryside, passing many small and picturesque farming villages and vineyards.  At about Mile 80, runners reach Campo Ligure, a ski-resort town at the base of Turchino Pass, the significant mountain on the course.

Once you summit Turchino Pass, you begin a very-fast 10-mile descent to the Mediterranean sea, reaching the 100-mile checkpoint and the Italian Riviera at Arrenzano.  For the final 75 miles, you are never more than a few feet off of the sea, passing through scores of postcard-beautiful resort towns, fishing villages, dramatic cliffs, and spectacular vistas until you reach the finish line in Sanremo, the last major city in Italy before the French border.

Dave and Michele both ran the inaugural UMS in 2014, with Michele winning the race in the unbelievable time of 31:49, and Dave coming in 3rd overall (and first American) in 33:22.  Zwitty and UMS are proud to announce that Zwitty Ultra is the Official Coaching Program of the UltraMilano-Sanremo.  To learn more about this once-in-a-lifetime race, please visit www.ultramilanosanremo.it, or simply click on the logo to the left.

grand to grand ultra

Picture
The Grand To Grand Ultra -- a 167-mile stage race from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the summit of the Grand Staircase in Utah -- is the first and only self-supported stage footrace in America.  Registration for the 2015 race is now open.

However its uniqueness does not stop there. It is the first stage race to start from the awe inspiring north rim of the Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and finish on the summit of the Grand Staircase, one of the world's most iconic geological formations. The course takes you through a high desert landscape of sand dunes, red rock canyons, buttes, mesas and hoodoos. You will navigate compelling slot canyons and experience the remotest part of continental America in the way of the earliest settlers, Navajo and Paiute Indian tribes. This is where Montezuma's gold is still reputed to be buried.

Observe nature up close in an environment rich in flora and wildlife – from unusual and threatened cacti to big horn sheep to the endangered California Condor, the largest bird in America.  And Challenge yourself in the company of an international group of participants who are all eager to complete a world-class course, one which has been experienced by few adventurers.  Finally, treat yourself to the nightlife of Las Vegas after you emerge from the desert!

Coach Michele Graglia is the 2014 Grand To Grand Champion, and course record-holder.  Grand To Grand and Zwitty are proud to announce that Michele is an Official Coach for the 2015 Grand To Grand Ultra.  For more information on the race, visit www.g2gultra.com or click on the above image.

"8 hours of hell" race series

Picture
After the conclusion of the Keys 100 in May, there aren't a whole lot of options for summer racing in Florida (especially in Southwest Florida).   8 Hours of Hell is the first series of its kind. Runners can test their strength and endurance by running from 10am to 6pm at five different races in Lee, Charlotte and Sarasota counties, one race per month. Then the top runners will be invited to run in the Championship Race at a 6th location. Trails will be in the range of 3 to 5 miles with a fully stocked Aid Station as well as water and Tailwind on the course too. Each course offers a varied degree of technicality. The 6, 12 and 24 hour formats are quite popular; now the 8 hour race brings new hype to timed racing. Don't miss out on this opportunity to test your limits.

Zwitty Ultra is proud to be the Official Coaching Program of the 8 Hours of Hell race series!
