team zwitty, lately
Team Zwitty runners are constantly racing all over the country (from 5ks to 100-milers, and everything in-between). Here are just a few of the races completed and awesome results posted by Zwitty runners in the last two months alone (most-recent results are listed first):
lauren hadley: Ancient Oaks 100

On December 21, 2014, Florida ultrarunner Lauren Hadley finished her first 100-mile race at the Ancient Oaks 100 (Titusville, Florida). Strong and steady throughout, Lauren ran a perfect race and finished 6th female (12th overall), with a time of 26:37. With her training, Lauren completely went "all-in" for this race, as Ancient Oaks ("AO") represents her favorite ultramarathon in the country. She has a deep love for the race, its unique history, and the state park that hosts the race.
"If Dave had input in his paragraph, he would mostly likely counter with “Well you did the work, this was all you”. But… he’s not here to defend himself so I can go ahead and say YES, I did do the “work” but I would have had no idea what “work” to do without a coach, and I certainly wouldn’t have had the confidence to push myself as hard as I have the last 4 months. I can say without a doubt that my experience at Ancient Oaks, which was nothing less than perfect would not have been as enjoyable had I gone it alone. So, thank you Dave for helping me turn this dream into a reality. And I hope you’re not thinking you’re done with me now! There are a lot more races on the horizon for this girl…"
Congrats, Lauren! We couldn't be more proud of you!!

jon kevin cooper: Ancient Oaks 100

Also at Ancient Oaks on December 21, 2014, Florida ultrarunner Jon Kevin Cooper completed his second 100-mile run ever (Keys 100 2013 was the other), and he shaved over two hours off of his previous 100-mile time. Kevin was focused and determined for the duration, and steadily climbed the rankings throughout the race. By the time it was over, he found himself as the 5th-place male (top-10 overall), with a time of 25:24!
"Dave and Team Zwitty have been an invaluable help to me. Although I had previously finished a 100 mile race, I had not seriously run in over a year and a half. I had signed up for Wild Sebastian 50 and Ancient Oaks 100, but was not training consistently, and very conservatively. In the past, I ran between 8-10 miles a day and 20-25 on Saturdays. While I finished my races, I was underprepared and ended up walking a lot.
While I did much more weekly miles with Dave, I never felt burned out, and never injured myself. He provided the level of support I needed at the time. He was always there to answer questions and provide encouragement. I finished Ancient Oaks 100 with more than a two hours off my previous PR, and felt great, and have had minimal recovery time. I cannot wait to see what happens with my next race, when I have more time with Dave. I have been very happy with my results and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a coach."
Congrats, Kevin!! Well-earned...

mike peragine: treasure coast 10k

On December 13, 2014, Pennsylvania marathon runner Mike Peragine -- who recently ran a "sub-3" marathon this fall at the Chicago Marathon -- won the overall title at the Treasure Coast YMCA Jingle Run 10k in Stuart, Florida (and set a PR in the process) with a time of 38:48 (6:15/mi pace). The remarkable thing about Mike's win is that it was a "train-through" week for him, and he actually ran a 10-mile training run the day before in about 60 minutes (so he wasn't exactly racing on fresh legs).
"While my history with running goes back much further, I have only been racing for the last two years or so. After a solid race season this past fall, I started to consider looking for a coach to see how much further I could take my running with someone supporting me and challenging me in ways I couldn’t do so for myself. A good friend recommended I speak with Dave, and from our first conversation I knew it was a good fit. His availability, sense of humor, personality and love for the sport make him a pleasure to work with. He has taken me far outside of my comfort zone in all areas of my running including recovery, speed work, and learning to let go sometimes and just running to enjoy it again instead of checking my pace every quarter mile. I am still running the same miles as before, but my body feels better, my attitude towards my training is one of renewed excitement, and I can already see and feel the improvements during my runs. I am looking forward to what 2015 brings and am excited to enter it as a Zwitty runner!"
Congrats, Mike!!

addie green: Space Coast Marathon

On November 30, 2014, Addie Green set a marathon PR at the Space Coast Marathon in Cocoa, Florida. With her 3:22 time (7:42/mi), and in a race with thousands of runners, Addie won her age group and re-qualified for Boston!! (She is already signed up for Boston 2015).
"Contacting Dave was a leap of faith for me. Ive always trained alone and without rhyme or reason to what my training entailed. I decided that in 2015 I was going to finally see what I was made of and contact none other than the best.
In just a short time, Dave has already tapped into potential I didnt know existed. Also, for the first time in a long time, my runs feel more energized and my body doesnt feel as beat up. I used to end my weeks not wanting to go another mile, but now Im wanting more. The best part....he's always there!!! Always! Whether it is to answer a stupid question, offer some advice, give me a boost in confidence, or just make me laugh. Bar none, the best thing since sliced bread!"
Congrats Addie!! We cannot wait to see what 2015 holds for you :)

patrick hrabos: SAL half-marathon

Also on November 30, 2014, but on the other side of the state of Florida (Sarasota), Pat Hrabos ran the SAL Half Marathon, and finished 2nd overall with an astonishing 1:19 time. That's a 6:01/mile the whole way. And the only person who beat him (by only one minute) is a Div 1 NCAA cross-country runner. Pat didn't even taper at all for this race -- it was just a training run for the upcoming Jacksonville Bank Marathon.
"My training with the Real 'Coach K' has helped me attain results that I did not know were possible. Under Dave's guidance, I am running with confidence and am excited to see continued improvement. Every run has a purpose and the structured training has helped me reach the next level."
Congrats, Pat!! And look out, Florida marathon and ultrarunning communities: Pat is going to be a force in 2015!!

noelani taylor: oceans 50

On November 7, 2014, newbie ultrarunner Noelani Taylor burst onto the Florida ultrarunner scene with an incredible 7:04 time at the Oceans 50-mile race in Flagler Beach, Florida (8:28/mi average). Not only did Noelani win the race outright, but in the process she posted the fastest 50-mile time run in Florida this year (male or female). She ran so fast that only a handful of the 50 4-person relay teams running the race posted a better time than she did!
"Thank you Dave for helping me realize my potential at Oceans; I cannot wait for what 2015 brings and I look forward to racing with Team Zwitty!"
Congrats, Noelani, and we can't wait to see what you do at the 100-mile distance in 2015!!
