overview

Picture
A fellow Ivy League graduate (University of Pennsylvania), as well as Georgetown Medical Center, Dr. Chris Roman is an impeccably-credentialed physician. He did his residency at Vanderbilt (Nashville), and is a board-certified surgeon and radiologist.

What makes Chris the most-qualified physician in the country to help endurance runners, however, is not only his superior intellect and history as a doctor, but also his vast experience as a runner.  Simply put, Chris has "been there, done that."  He has competed in -- and completed -- some of the very toughest races the world has to offer, including the Badwater 135 (twice), the Brazil 135/175 (many times), the Keys 100 (twice), the Daytona 100, the Leadville Trail 100, the Western States 100, and many other races.  (In total, Chris has run over 20 races of 100 miles or longer...)

Dave and Chris have been great friends for years, and we are beyond ecstatic to announce that Chris has officially joined Zwitty Ultra!  His medical expertise and ultrarunning experience will be an invaluable tool for all Zwitty runners!!

selected career highlights

With over 20 ultra marathons of 100 miles or longer, Chris is one of the most-accomplished (primarily) road ultrarunners in the world:

  • Badwater 135 (Death Valley, CA):  Top-20 finisher (2011, 2012)

  • Brazil 135/175 (Camihno de Fe "Path of Faith", Brazil):  American record-holder (Brazil 135); American record-holder (Brazil 175); more official finishes of the race (4) than any American

  • Keys 100 (Key Largo to Key West, Florida):  2-time finisher

  • Leadville Trail 100 (Leadville, CO):  Chris actually finished the "Race Across the Sky" (the entire race is run between 9000 and 13,000 feet of elevation) as his first 100-miler ever!

  • Western States 100 (Squaw Valley to Auburn, CA):  Chris completed the "granddaddy" of U.S. ultramarathons!

  • Daytona 100 (Jacksonville to Ponce Inlet, FL):  Chris was one of the very first humans to ever complete the 100-mile run from Atlantic Beach to the "birthplace of speed," Ponce Inlet!!

  • Expeditions:  In addition to "official" races, Chris has completed several multi-day expeditions, including the 300+ mile Camihno de Fe in Brazil, the entire Erie Canal (300+ miles as well), an off-road crossing of Death Valley during the middle of summer, as well as several other expeditions.
It goes without saying that we are completely "over the moon" with the news that Dr. Roman's services will now be available to Zwitty runners!
